If you could play on one team (pretending you are NHL worthy) at any point in the history of the NHL, what team would you pick and why? 1989 Calgary Flames for me!
Pick a team before 94 when they started having a lockout every decade.
Why did you seem so surprised by the Devils’ success last year? With the exception of the first half of the season two years ago, they’ve been one of the strongest franchises in the league for years. Elias, Parise, Kovalchuk, Henrique, Zajac, Clarkson, Brodeur… a lot of good players, seems like a good team to me. I’m not even a Devils fan but I even think they’ll be fine without Parise (though I wouldn’t exactly say that I think they’re the favourites to come out of the East again). But maybe I’m dumb.
Elias has been on the decline so his production was surprising. Parise and Kovalchuk are sick. Henrique I knew was good but not this good. Zajac and Clarkson did well. Brodeur wasn’t spectacular. It’s mainly their relatively unrecognizable defence that surprised me. They played a good system.

Nope. It’s good hockey, but no.
Well I think it is I think alot of Ahl teams can beat khl and european teams. Khl,swiss league etc. Dont succeed in the Nhl and alot of ahlers for life go to the khl or washouts go to the khl to destroy the Khl and others. You dont see too many Khlers and etc. Succeed in the nhl.

Players talk about what is fair. They live in a bubble of their creating and don’t have any idea of what is fair. Working 300 days a year @JLupul makes over 14,000 dollars a work day. My father earns about 170 dollars a day and has gotten cancer from being on hot cement in the sun all day. I work multiple jobs just to get by. While the players eat at fancy restaurants, drive any cars they want and date the most beautiful women imaginable, the rest of us eat KD, take the bus, and date frumpy chicks who have “nice personalities”.
When they are done their 10 year career they can retire with a league pension or they can continue working as sports commentators or play poker online for free until their eyes pop out of their heads. My father will be working until he dies, probably on the job. This is the same for many people. Hockey players work hard. So do other people.
When a normal person has a pay cut they suck it up and move on. They make sacrifices and adjust the best they can. Loops can lose 25% of his pay and still make 62 times what my father makes. In 5 days he makes my father’s entire yearly salary. My father loses his job each year for the winter. So, for the winter, if he can’t find another job, he gets about 90 bucks a day, instead of 170.
I would suggest to Twitter users to start a trend #NHL FanPerspective Compare what you make to what your favorite player makes. Mine would go something like this:
@JLupul I make 22k a year. You make that in a day and a half. More than just owners need to think about the fans. #NHLFanPerspective
Without NHL hockey we will move on with our lives as former fans. The players might need to start thinking of other options.
One last thing that burns my buns. Players need to be capped at 6 years MAX for contract length and each year needs to be equal salary. No front loading. These things ruin the game. Especially the Leafs. Between these stupid contracts and the cap being added, the Leafs were destroyed. I think the team is on the brink of being good now but they will not get any further unless this is fixed. Also, players stop playing when they get more than several years. Why should they? They get paid no matter what. Perhaps: Make it so if a player has decreased production based upon a variety of variables, the team can file for arbitration to have the contract cancelled or altered. That would fix that quick.

Your points about the players making what they do literally make no sense at all. If they don’t get it than the owners will. What do you think they do with that money? Donate it all? We’re still dealing with the same amount of money, it’s just how it gets distributed. As for the girls comment…what?

The owners should make it. Who cares what they do with it? Donate it. Don’t donate it. Suck it into their noses off strippers’ stomachs for all I care. Players make an amount that more than compensates them. If you opened a business, would you tailor it to give your employees all the profits or do you want to make profit for yourself? It’s not like these guys are making minimum wage here. 50/50 is a great deal for them. No other business really works like that.
If I’m the owners I would shut the season down if it isn’t resolved by next Friday. I would very much hate to see that happen. I only watch hockey, no other sports. But this is a business. It should be run as one, not as a charity to players.

Was a huge WWE fan as a kid. I don’t hate it now, I’m just not into it. I was all about Stone Cold Steve Austin dating all the way back to the DX days. I love Anderson Silva, but really I don’t have favourite fighters. I just like the sport.

Do you foresee any changes to the game coming out of this lockout when (or if) it ends like last time? Last time gave us no red line, the trapezoid and the shootout among other things, I know this is minor but I would rather think about the game rather than the economics.

In terms of major, major rules changes – no. Not like last time, anyway. Maybe a stronger stance on suspensions and headshots.

Ilya Ehzov of SKA is kind of, undefeated, even with 3 games before Kovalchuck. Whats up with that?
Well he hasn’t been bulletproof. SKA outscores the rest of the KHL by a country mile. They were insane without Kovalchuk, now they’re just not fair. Ehzov is still a key part of their team and if he gives them average/above average goaltending they should contend for the league title no problem.

I did. Radio and Television Arts at Ryerson University. I took a lot of writing courses, which might be the most practical, interchangeable skill in the industry.

im having trouble at this point in time in thinking they can fix whats happened to fan relations.
Well I cover hockey for a living, so I don’t see that ever happening. That being said, I can’t just sit on my hands and wait for things to get better. I now work for the OHL’s Mississauga Steelheads and do highlights for the KHL’s official YouTube channel. Sucks that the NHL isn’t playing games but life goes on.
