Olympic Recap: Looking back
After weeks of CBA and potential lockout talk, I’m not gonna lie – I miss the Olympics.
I miss Mr. Bean’s bit from the opening ceremony (I know his name is Rowan Atkinson).
I miss how cute it was when everyone thought Michael Phelps was finished after he lost his first race, and how he ended up being crowned the greatest Olympian ever.
I miss Christine Sinclair’s three goal performance against the Americans, and I miss her emotional reaction to Canada’s historic bronze medal win in extra time.
I miss the anticipation of watching Usain Bolt run the 100m dash, and then watching him break his own Olympic record as if anybody was even remotely surprised.
I miss Felix Sanchez’s gold medal win for the Dominican Republic in the 400m hurdles, and the sight of when he pulled a picture of his late grandmother out from under his vest.
What did you miss? Leave a comment in the comment box to let me know. I’ll be entering the comments into a randomizer and randomly selecting a winner. What does that winner win? The prize – a $50 pre-paid VISA card. Interested? Yeah you are. Dooo it!

I miss the chills I got during every event, when they talked about what it took for the athlete to get there. I also miss waking up to see what was going on. And the way that Tom Daley celebrated that bronze medal as if it was the Stanley Cup!! I can’t forget the closing ceremony that had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see who was going to preform next, and fangirling once or twice!!
why are the Olympics already done, it felt like they were just getting started!?!?!?!
I miss watching sports that I’d never seen before and discovering fun words like “repechage” and “peloton”.
I miss the home town athletes making Britain proud. I also miss LFRs. lol
I miss watching Canada getting screwed in calls in events.
I miss hearing the Canadian national anthem play and watching our flag rise after Rosie MacLennan won gold…goosebump-inducing moment.
I also miss watching Canada’s WNT.
But most of all, I just miss hockey.
I miss seeing the pure talent of the Olympians. It is always amazing to watch the best athletes from around the world compete. You can’t help but be excited when you see them doing their passion.
I miss Bolt’s 100m dash. I mean to say I missed it. I tuned in to watch, then sneezed. Missed the whole damn thing. lol
I miss Christine Sinclair’s wonderful smile as she proudly held the Canadian flag at the closing ceremonies. I miss the sheer joy I felt as I cheered on my fellow Canadians, regardless of their final results. I miss the inspiring stories of all the athletes from around the world. I miss waking up and witnessing history being made every single day. But, most of all, I miss watching the female beach volley ball players prancing around in those skimpy bikinis. ;D
i miss seeing the canadian women play their hearts out in the semi finals, and then rebounding to win the bronze medal.
I also miss seeing a whole nation stand behind them,,… and really hope they show the same support heading into the world cup in 2015.
I miss Women’s Beach Volley Ball. I miss it so much.
I miss Carol Huynh’s Bronze Medal win for womans wrestling (She’s My Cousin, Im biased)
And I miss our lone gold medal performance
and All the womans soccer.
ALso, who DOESNT miss Womans Beach Volleyball (Okay I didnt miss it when they were fully clothed.)
hey steve!
of all the canadian athletes, the person who i most miss watching is decathlete damian warner. i didn’t intend to watch any of the decathlon events but did on a whim and wound up seeing him set six personal bests through ten events, finishing fifth overall. pretty incredible given he just took up the event two years ago and had only participated in twelve decathlons prior to the olympics. and hey, he just seems like a nice guy. a nice buy who will win canada the gold in rio!
of all the athletes’ antics, i miss russia’s high jump superstar ivan ukhov’s ‘i lost my competition vest’ moment the very best. but don’t worry, ivan simply used his tshirt instead and went on to win the gold medal. oh ivan…
I miss getting excited about sports I previously didn’t really care about, like badminton, rowing and handball!
i miss the Canada Vs Usa womens soccer game
I’ll miss the Olympics for something to watch on TV. Nothing good ever plays during the summer so at least during the Olympics there was usually something live to watch.
I miss the excitement of waking up or going home and watching the olympics and the thrill of it. I also am going to miss watching Phelps swim, I mean that man is a merman or something!
I never thought I could ever watch soccer, but the canadian women really brought it. It was incredible seeing the emotion they brought when they played. They had nothing to lose really, but everything to win.
I miss seeing Canadian athletes win medals.
I miss having an excuse to sit on my couch all day and do nothing. Also women’s soccer.
I miss the closing ceremonies. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen, what with the inclusions of John Lennon, Queen, The Who, and everything else. Just unbelievable.
Hi Steve,
I always miss the togetherness that the Olympics brings to a country. All of a sudden, everyone feels more pride than usual for their country and cannot get enough of watching them win medals and beat the other countries. In terms of an actual event, I miss watching the amazing gymnasts. I miss watching girls my age do things I wouldn’t dream of doing in the next 30 years. I just think it’s mindblowing to watch.
I miss the Canadian women’s soccer team celebrating their bronze medal win, the amazing gymnastics competitions. and the swimming races! An incredible two weeks of Olympic glory!!!
I miss the amazingness that was Oscar Pistorius, the “Blade Runner”! His story was truly inspiring and the level of love and respect the athletes show him was AMAZING!
I miss the Winter Olympics.
Hey Steve, are you excited for the Sochi Russia Winter Olympics happening in 2014?
I’m actually really excited because CBC (the company I work for) has the rights. That’s a big opportunity, whether I’m editing them from here or covering them from there.
For hockey, team Russia will bring it harder than they ever have. Should be an amazing tourney.
